Condition of the Susoaidaira trails and Piukenai swamp on 27th June

27th June  8:00 AM

weather :rain

temperature:13℃

wind speed:4m/s

Let me tell you this so that there will be no misunderstanding among readers of this blog.

We basically do not recommend climbing in bad weather and terrible fog.

This blog is intended to be considered as the situation when our staff went to see what was going on.

This blog is not an endorsement of climbing in bad weather.

There is a lot of lingering snow on the trail on the Susoaidaira, so carrying light crampons, ice axe, spikes, and a GPS is recommended.

There is no snow until the 14th observation deck(P14)on the way to the Susoaidaira.

There are multiple puddles.

After passing the lookout, the trail is obscured by a large snowbank.

There are green poles and pink tape, but please check absolutely your location with a map or GPS.

After passing through the snow ravine, the trail becomes a high pine forest with many puddles scattered about.

After a short distance, another snow ravine appears. Be careful of your footing.

In the mountains, visibility often changes rapidly and suddenly, so if you do not carry a map and GPS, the risk of getting lost increases.

Even at temperatures of 13°C (55°F), the snow underfoot is frozen in places, and without light crampons or spikes, you may slip and fall.

These are upslope and downslope.

When visibility is poor, it is difficult to see the trail ahead, and careful action is required.

There are snow gorges and puddles up to before the Susoaidaira junction, and snow bridges near the wooden trail, so please be careful not to step over them.

Young buds of Chinguruma are beginning to appear at the Susoaidaira. Buds are just beginning to appear.

The trail is still under maintenance, so please use caution when walking on it as there are materials and lumber on the trail.

In the direction of the Piukenai stream, there were more puddles of water and lingering snow.

The Piukenai swamp is too dangerous to wade because the water is waist-deep due to rising water and rapid current.

The trail before the swamp has a lot of remaining snow and is also dangerous.

The roar of rising water around streams makes it difficult to hear the bear bell and increases the risk of encountering a brown bear.

Until the snow melts, do not traverse in the direction of Asahidake  to Toma Nokkoshi.
