March 18th 2021 | Whiteout of Course C – Course A

In the morning of March 18th, I climbed from ropeway station ⇒ Course C ⇒  Course A ⇒ Sugatami station
with snowshoes. The day was whiteout, the temperature at the time of departure was -8 degrees Celsius,
and the wind speed was 5 m / s.

It was sunny a couple of days ago, so it didn’t seem to be very fun to ski with the snow.

But it was snowing a lot on this day, so the snow condition became softer and it seemed to be slippery, so many customers are visiting.

If you start from the C course, please note that it is dangerous because the tree branches stick out from the left side of the course.

There is a curve in the middle of the C course, the width is narrow, and it may be difficult to see the person who is slipping, so please be careful if you are snowshoeing. The snow is light on this day, and the C course has a gentle slope, so it seems easy to walk with snowshoes.

You can’t see the surrounding scenery because of the fog, but don’t you think the cloudy scenery is somehow beautiful? In the last few days, the temperature has risen, the snow has melted, and the ground has appeared in some places, so please be careful if you slip.

At the confluence of Course B and Course A, both skiers and snowshoes should be careful of collisions with each other.

When approaching the A course, the wind suddenly became stronger and sometimes I could not see the front.

* The weather at Mt. Asahidake changes suddenly, so climbers and skiers should be sure to prepare equipment and clothes.

I couldn’t see the area around the starting point of Course A at all, but many customers still are skiing.

It seems that some people were heading toward the fumaroles.

The sign installed in front of Sugatami station was also quite difficult to see.

When I asked the ropeway staff, the wind speed at this time was 10 m / s.

The departure time at ropeway station was 9:30, and the arrival at Sugatami station was 11:45.

It took about 2 hours to climb to Sugatami station by snowshoeing.

The width of the course is about 5m-9m depending on the location.

As some of you may know, the wind speed of 10m / s is quite strong, so please be careful.

Asahidake is a mountain that is entertaining in both summer and winter, but there are many accidents that cannot be imagined under severe weather conditions.

If you wait for mountain information and basic knowledge, it will be helpful not only for yourself but also for those around you.

A safe and secure trip is the best activity.
